Registered Behavior Technician/ABA Therapist

CLASSIFICATION: Contractor
MUST BE WILLING TO DRIVE TO: Saint Louis and surrounding counties
HOURS: Part time and full time available.
LOCATION: In-home, school and community.
We seek passionate, enthusiastic, creative and flexible people for this position. We are a group of behavior analysts who provide ABA therapy, but we also utilize many other schools of thought and paradigms. We are looking for people who are passionate about ABA but also learning new techniques and are able to socially blend into many settings. We have clients in home, school setting and offer community therapy. Flexibility with scheduling, and service delivery is a must to fit this position. Also, a reliable form of transportation is required.

JOB DEFINITION:

Under the general direction of the assigned consultant, the Behavior Technician performs a variety of activities in support of instructional programs for students who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum or related disorder; assists teachers and staff in development and implementation of program and materials to enhance the student’s learning experience in a school setting. Implements individualized instructional programs within home and school settings for individuals who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Prepares appropriate materials; supports children as they transition into general education settings; collects daily progress data and consults with the patient’s treatment team on a regular basis.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This position is an advanced instructional support position. To function at this level, the incumbent must have the background, training and experience to work with supervision in the student’s home, school and community settings.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:

Essential Duties:

  • Implements individualized instructional program (such as discrete trial training, verbal behavior, academics, self-care skills, social skills development, behavior plan), developed by the Behavior Specialist or other appropriate staff, within the student’s home or school setting
  • Prepares all materials necessary for implementing individualized program as stated above
  • Supports students in school settings through use of inclusion support techniques such as shadow prompting
  • Consults with the classroom teacher and consultant about upcoming assignments and necessary accommodations and modifications for the student
  • Prepares materials and equipment needed for curriculum accommodations and modifications
  • Collects daily progress data on assigned students and reports on that data to supervisors and the team
  • Assists in training staff members and families on autism and appropriate interventions
  • Consults with team members and other appropriate staff on a regular basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
2. Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.
3. Physical agility to sit, stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Completion high school diploma plus 1 year of experience in field
  • Satisfactory completion of training program in autism interventions including: discrete trial teaching, social skills facilitation, behavior intervention, making curricular modifications and accommodations, structured teaching, visual communication systems, inclusion support strategies and data collection procedures (or demonstration of equivalent level of competency as measured by district-administered test).
  • Registered Behavior Technician Certificate from BACB

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with Autism and other developmental Disabilities

Knowledge of:

  • Child Development
  • Basic understanding of curriculum and instructional materials used at various grade levels
  • Basic English language and math concepts
  • Basic ABA procedures and interventions
  • Ethical and professional code of conduct as specified by the BACB

Ability to:

Summary:

The board certified behavior analyst (BCBA/ BCaBA) is responsible for developing plans to reduce problem behaviors and teach appropriate replacement behaviors for children, adolescents, and adults with autism and related developmental disabilities. The BCBA/BCaBA will conduct functional behavior assessments, skills assessment and develop behavior and treatment plans in collaboration with parents, caregivers, educators and other team members. The behavior analyst is also responsible for developing skills acquisition programming, training parents, line therapists and other caregivers on all behavior change protocols, analyzing data and adjusting plans as needed based on data.

Job Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of job responsibilities that are included for the BCBA/BCaBA position. These statements may not describe the entire job, but are intended to describe the general nature, essential functions, and level of qualifications and skills required for the position.

  • Conduct functional assessment and/or functional analysis of target behaviors, including indirect assessments, direct observations, and experimental analyses
  • Develop behavior intervention plans and general behavioral guidelines, in collaboration with parents, caregivers, educators and other team members, to decrease challenging behaviors and increase replacement behaviors
  • Conduct competency-based training on behavior plans, skill acquisition programming and all other behavior change procedures for line therapists, parents, and any other team members with whom clients are in regular contact
  • Ensure correct implementation of behavior support plans. skill acquisition programs and other behavior change procedures through the effective use of data and graphing, direct observations, team consultation, and records review
  • Recommend and develop program modifications to the team as necessary
  • Analyze all behavior and skill acquisition data
  • Complete progress notes for every session in accordance with DMH and insurance guidelines
  • Complete a monthly report that describes trends, changes in behaviors, or any other significant events that may have impact the behaviors of the client, recommendations of the BCBA/BCaBA and any trainings or relevant programming actions that occurred during the month
  • Conduct skills assessments to determine programming needs and treatment recommendations
  • Write recommendation letters to clinical supervisors and case mangers for on-going services
  • Develop treatment plans in accordance with requirements of client specific payor and company procedures
  • Ensure compliance with statewide policies and procedures through presentation of behavior plans to behavior development committees and human rights committees as applicable
  • Track and monitor billable Behavior Analyst services
  • Collect and present data to, as well as, consult with the psychiatrist regarding behavioral progress, to allow informed decisions to be made regarding the effectiveness and necessity of psychotropic medication
  • Attend client centered meetings (IEPs, ISPs, FSTs) as appropriate
  • Consult and coordinate services with other education and health care professionals on an as needed basis for all clients on caseload
  • Participate in intake meetings with prospective clients as requested
  • Attend all required company meetings and trainings
  • Maintain certification and licensure
  • Participate on continuing education as required for certification maintenance

Qualifications:

Applicants should have experience with implementing functional behavior assessments with children, adolescents and/or adults with autism, recognizing and discussing signs of autism and criteria for autism spectrum disorder, and participating in clinical teams with other autism professionals. Applicants should have a strong clinical background in administering verbal behavior assessments, conducting language, play, and skill-based assessments, and in designing, implementing, and/or training others using individualized language, play and skill-based curricula. Strong applicants will have supervised experience in 1:1 education of learners with autism across educational and community settings, as well as familiarity with designing, participating in, or supervising in-home 1:1 programs for young children with autism. Experience with collecting, graphing, analyzing, displaying and discussing data based progress is a must.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience providing services to individuals with autism and/or other developmental disabilities
  • National Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)
  • Licensure as a Behavior Analyst in the state of Missouri (or meets the eligiblity criteria for licensure)
  • For BCBA candidates: Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education or a related field. Strong consideration is given to candidates with degrees from ABA accredited programs
  • For BCaBA candidates: Bachelor’s degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education or a related field AND actively pursuing Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology or Education

Therapeutic Skills:
